The Flight Recorders

Were the black boxes planted?

Who took these photos and what real proof is there that they were even taken at the Shanksville scene?

What was so crucial about these photos in the Moussaoui trial that the public had to wait over 4 years after 9/11 for them to be released?

Did the perps screw up when they reportedly told the Washington Post that they found both of Flight 93's alleged black boxes not only on the same day, but a day before the first black box was officially found?

"United Flight 93, originating in Newark, followed a seemingly normal course until it reached Cleveland, where it suddenly made a sharp turn south, followed by another turn toward the southeast, according to Federal Aviation Administration radar tracking reports. The reports were published on the Web by Flight Explorer at www.flightexplorer.com.
Authorities late today recovered the plane's flight-data and cockpit-voice recorders, government sources said. These should permit authorities to reconstruct what went on in the cockpit during the flight." - Washington Post (09/12/01), [archived: highbeam.com, local]

"Investigators this afternoon discovered the "black box" containing flight data recordings from United Flight 93 at the crash site in rural Somerset County.

Pittsburgh FBI spokesman Bill Crowley said the flight data recorder was found about 4:50 p.m. in the main crater at the crash site, located near Shanksville." - Pittsburg Post Gazette (09/13/01)

Flight 93 voice recorder found in Somerset County crash site

By Matthew P. Smith, Post-Gazette Staff Writer

"Investigators last night found the cockpit voice recorder from United Flight 93, a discovery that could help authorities determine what happened in the final seconds before the hijacked Boeing 757 crashed in Somerset County.

The cockpit voice recorder, one of two black boxes aboard the plane, was found 25 feet below ground in the crater created when the plane struck the ground in Stonycreek.
FBI spokesman Bill Crowley said the recorder was found about 8:25 p.m. and was being flown to the National Transportation Safety Board offices in Washington.
The plane's other black box, the flight data recorder, which records information about the aircraft's speed, altitude, position and other information, was found in roughly the same spot on Thursday." - post-gazette.com (09/15/01)

"The flight data recorder was located on September 13, some 15 feet underground. The following day, the cockpit voice recorder was unearthed at a depth of 25 feet.

Why does one recorder have an Allied-Signal label on it and the other one has a Honeywell label when Flight 93 went into service in 1996, but the two companies didn't merged until 1999?

If the Allied-Signal recorder had to be replaced, why did they replace the whole thing when the outer case is still the same on the Honeywell?

Aircraft: Boeing 757-222

Flight Number: 93

Year of Delivery: 1996" - airdisaster.com

Allied, Honeywell tie knot

"AlliedSignal Inc. said Monday it will buy electronic controls systems maker Honeywell Inc.

Michael Bonsignore, chairman and CEO of Honeywell, will be CEO of the new company, called Honeywell International Inc." - CNN Money (06/07/1999)

How come there is no dirt caked on the recorders after they supposedly burrowed 15ft and 25ft underground?

Is it just a coincidence that the CVR, that allegedly captured audio of the cockpit struggle, was allegedly found a day after the FDR supposedly was even though both are located next to each other in the tail section?

Why was it so necessary for the crews to stop the excavation process and risk a photographer's safety by having them jump down in the hole just to take a photo of one the recorders?

Photo looks to have been taken down in the excavated hole. If it was, that would mean the photographer was stepping on some of the remains of the 40 passengers down in the ground just to take this photo when they could have easily waited to photograph this recorder outside the hole as they allegedly did with the cylinder recorder..

Photo looks to have been taken above ground. Notice the piece of aged tin (right-hand side/middle) that looks like it was placed under the rocks which also look like they were places next to the recorder for this shot.

Why is the squared recorder propped up on a piece of metal?

Is it odd that this is the only photo from the scene that shows wires?

What is that piece of wood doing in the shot?  How did it get there?

Is it just a coincidence that BOTH bottom sections of the recorders are missing and only the labeled parts were found that makes for more "dramatic" looking photos?

Is the squared-shaped recorder the CVR as quoted by the U.S. Federal Court's website, or is it the FDR as the NTBS appears to show in their report?

"In support of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI's) investigation into the terrorist act of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on September 11, 2001, the NTSB Vehicle Recorders Division received the following solid state flight data recorder (SSFDR) on September 13, 2001:

Recorder Manufacturer/Model: Allied Signal SSFDR

The SSFDR was examined upon receipt. The recorder displayed evidence of impact damage (figure 1)." - NTSB [Local PDF]
